The accessibility statement was prepared on 11 September 2020.

How accessible is Findicator?

Findicator is partially compliant with the A and AA level accessibility criteria required by law (WCAG criteria 2.1).

If you need such content that you cannot use because of deficiencies in accessibility, please contact Statistics Finland's information services. Email address of information services is and telephone number +358 29 551 2220.

What deficiencies are there in the accessibility of Findicator?

The Findicator contains a large number of statistical graphs that have been implemented with a special statistical graphics application. No separate text alternatives have been added to these graphs. The screen reader may attempt to read some of the information contained in the graph without the content being conveyed properly. The main content of the graphs is, however, opened in the text attached to the graphs. Text alternatives for logos and icons are missing or deficient. (WCAG 1.1.1)

There are shortcomings in the notations of the column and row headings of the tables presented in the service. (WCAG 1.3.1)

The pages of most indicators have a link to the database, but on pages where the database has no content and the link is therefore inactive, the inactiveness is reported only in grey colour. (WCAG 1.3.3))

Colour is the only way in which information can be conveyed in statistical graphs. (WCAG 1.4.1)

The contrast between the text and background is not sufficient on the front page where the main heading is on top of the image. (WCAG 1.4.3)

The focus is too dull and in some places it is completely lacking. (WCAG 1.4.11, 2.4.7)

There are problems with keyboard accessibility with the Chrome browser, where keyboard accessibility will not activate until the user clicks on the content section of the page. (WCAG 2.1.1)

All pages are lacking a link bypassing the blocks. (WCAG 2.4.1)

The title of the search result page and the table page heading of each indicator are not descriptive. (WCAG 2.4.2)

The focus order in keyboard accessibility progresses incorrectly on the front page. (WCAG 2.4.3)

The main heading of the table page of each indicator is the same as the heading of the main page of the indicator. (WCAG 2.4.6)

The main language of the pages is marked correctly, but the languages of the language selections in the main menu are not marked and some pages have expressions of a few words in other languages, such as links to international statistical data, where the language is not marked. (WCAG 3.1.2)

The search function lacks a label in a few places. (WCAG 3.3.2, 3.2.4)

The website code contains errors. (WCAG 4.1.1)

The Indicators by topic menu on the home page and the description menu of each indicator have been made as links. They open up additional content to the page, but information is not conveyed to the screen reader user that something happens by clicking the link. (WCAG 4.1.2)

The number of search results is not conveyed to the screen reader user. (WCAG 4.1.3)

We aim to correct the main deficiencies during 2020.
